Mrs Smith & Mrs Moore work in the Cove nurture room, this room is situated next to the swimming pool in the main school building.
The Cove nurture group offers morning sessions for Key Stage 1 children from 9.30am -12.15pm, Monday to Thursday and 2.40 to 3pm, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday for the reception children. On Friday morning nurture staff are available to meet with parents and attend staff meetings. Every 2nd Thursday afternoon we offer a parent’s support group in the Cove, which any parents at Ferndale Primary School are very welcome to attend.
We have a good relationship with the all the staff throughout school and share our practice and work closely with us to promote a nurturing environment at Ferndale Primary School.
At any time throughout the year if a member of staff has concerns about a child requiring nurture provision, we endeavour to place them in the Cove to support their needs.
We assess the children regularly to monitor progress and plan programmes of work to suit their individual needs. .
Parents are often anxious about changes in school and we work hard to elevate these anxieties. We encourage parents to meet with us and discuss their concerns, giving them the opportunity to ask questions and see evidence of our work in the Cove.
Our aim is assist each child’s smooth return to their class, so that eventually they spend everyday in class. After regular discussion with teachers we plan a programme of reintegration to suit each child’s needs, we keep parents informed of any changes and progress in the Cove.
Parents have said;
“Just wanted to say thank you, it’s comforting to know there is someone to listen more than anything, and your advice and support has helped me to regain some control. Thank you also for helping me see things from my son’s point of view, it’s so easy to loose sight of that.”
“We just want to thank you for having our son in the Cove; it has had a really positive effect on him. We can see the difference it has made to his confidence at school and we are really pleased with how he’s developed. We are glad the staff picked up on his shyness early and because of your help he’s come of his shell and enjoys going to school. Our son has enjoyed his time with you and will probably be a bit upset it’s coming to an end. Thank you so much its great what you do with the children”.
“I am very impressed with how the Cove has helped my son and can see a massive improvement in him and his behaviour since going there.”
